BULLYING PREVENTION, EDUCATION, & INTERVENTION EFFORTS
The Cedar Falls Community School District is striving to ensure physical and psychological safety for everyone in our schools and during school sponsored activities. Everyone has a right to feel safe, valued, and respected. To that end, we are committed to preventing and stopping bullying behavior.
Our efforts include:
- A collaborative effort between community members, parents, teachers, counselors, administrators, staff, and students.
- Education regarding the anti-bullying/harassment policy.
- Education for staff, families, and students re: anti-bullying efforts.
- Anti-bullying curriculum.
What is bullying?
- Includes one-sided and unwanted actions.
- Causes social, emotional, or physical harm.
- Involves an imbalance of power.
- Causes the target to feel threatened or unsafe.
- Is typically, but not always, repeated.
In order to be considered bullying, the action needs to meet the definition of bullying. In many cases, bullying occurs when adults are less likely to observe the behavior and may be carried out in verbal, written, physical, or electronic forms. Sometimes it includes elements of harassment and discrimination on the grounds of differences such as age, color, creed, national origin, race, religion, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical attributes, physical or mental ability or disability, ancestry, political party preference, political beliefs, socioeconomic status, or familial status.
